Which smartphone you would buy if you hold HTC Butterfly on one hand and the Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other? This is the big question striking to most of the potential customers as both the phones are equally good on macro level. Both have got their own pros and cons. Let us find answers for which phone to go based on the side-by-side comparison as below.

Screen display

HTC Butterfly sports 5-inch Super LCD3 screen providing a resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution with 440 ppi full HD display. Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Here I would give thumbs up to HTC Butterfly.

Size and weight

HTC Butterfly is 70.5mm wide where as the Samsung Galaxy S3 measures 70.6mm. HTC Butterfly is taller and measures 143mm and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 136.6mm in height.

HTC Butterfly is beefier than the Samsung Galaxy S3. It weighs 140g and the opponent is 133g.

The clear winner here according to me is Samsung Galaxy S3.

Processor

HTC Butterfly is powered with new Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz core processor equipped with 2GB of RAM where as the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with Exynos 4412 quad-core 1.4GHz Cortec-A9 processor with similar 2GB of RAM.

The winner here for me is HTC Butterfly again.

Operating system

Both are Android-based smartphone. HTC Butterfly comes out of the box with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is upgradeable to the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS and is upgreadeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

Memory

HTC Butterly comes with an internal storage of 16GB and can be expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in three variants based on internal storage – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. This too can be expandable to up to 64GB via microSD card.

I would like to give thumbs up to Samsung Galaxy S3 because it carries vast on-board memory.

Connectivity

HTC Butterfly comes with NFC (near field communication), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 3G/HSDPA and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP connectivity. Samsung on the other hand has jammed its Galaxy S3 with NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 3G/HSDPA, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and EDR.

Camera

HTC Butterfly is mounted with 8-megapixel rear camera providing a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It is equipped with features like autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, face/smile detection, simultaneous video/photo recording and 1080p video recording and geo-tagging. The smartphone is also equipped with 2.1-megapixel front camera to facilitate video calling.

Samsung Galaxy S3 too comes with 8-megapixel rear camera featuring autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo-tagging, image stabilization, face/smile detection and 1080 video recording. It is mounted with front camera of 1.9-megapixel.

Battery

HTC Butterfly is fueled with 2020 mAh Li-Polymer battery and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is packed with 2100 Li-Ion battery.

Winner here is slightly Samsung Galaxy S3 but it depends on what technology both the smartphones uses in saving the battery life. Also, the HTC Butterfly is equipped with bigger screen and better resolution than the Samsung Galaxy S3, so it may consume more battery power.

Extras

We see HTC Butterfly comes with GPS/A-GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, NFC, gyroscope, TV-out, stereo FM radio, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot and Beats Audio.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 on the other hand features GPS/A-GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, NFC, digital compass, barometer, S-Voice, TV-out, Smart Stay eye-tracking and stereo FM radio with RDS.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 wins here because of its S-Voice technology, which is similar to the Siri voice assistant of Apple’s iDevices.

Price

The HTC J Butterfly is priced tagged at $788 SIM-free, without contract.

With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S4 retailers are slashing the price of Galaxy S3. On Amazon today it is found to be available for a price of $441.29. The listed price is $899.99.

Which is better -HTC Butterfly or Samsung Galaxy S3 ?

Not with big difference, but slightly I favor Samsung Galaxy S3 more than HTC Butterfly here. It beats Butterfly. Below are the summary of the comparison and why Samsung Galaxy S3 wins.

- Connectivity wise both the smartphones are comparable.

- In size and weight the Samsung Galaxy S3 wins.

- There is a draw in camera/video performance.

- In storage factor the Samsung Galaxy S3 wins.

- I give thumbs up to the extra features of Samsung Galaxy S3.

HTC’s new offering Butterfly smartphone was unwrapped last year on December 11 and boasts a 5-inch Super LCD 3 screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, which is higher than that of Apple’s iPhone 5. The big question here is whether it will be able to grab the potential customers of iPhone 5. Well, if not, it will surely challenge the Cupertino giant with its own pros. Let us find out which will be the best buy for you if you wish to have either.

Display

The HTC Butterfly sports 5-inch Super LCD 3 screen offering resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and equipped with pixel density of 441 ppi. The Apple’s iPhone 5 on the other hand comes with smaller screen of 4-inch and provides a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. It offers pixel density of 326 ppi.

The screen of HTC Butterfly is clubbed with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 technology to give striking look to the touchscreen where as the iPhone 5 comes with Corning Gorilla Glass and oleophobic coating to give it extra protection against scratches, smudges and also of any accidental damage of display on daily use.

Operating system

The HTC Butterfly runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and is upgradeable to the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Apple’s iPhone 5 runs on iOS 6 mobile operating system.

Both the mobile operating systems are equally good in terms of performance but the iterations of iOS 6 does not differ much from the previous version. However, the May system of Apple has been re-introduced in it that suffered a lot in the earlier version with misguided and wrong information.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is much different from the previous Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It is much smoother equipped with easy navigation between the home screen and the apps.

Processor

HTC Butterfly is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (Krait) CPU and 2GB of RAM where as the iPhone 5 is packed with a quad-core A6 chip and 1GB of RAM.

The processor of Butterfly allows surfing Internet and streaming HD videos concurrently.

Connectivity

Both the smartphones support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP.

Camera

HTC Butterfly is mounted with 8-megapixel of rear camera and is packed with features like Auto-Focus (AF), BSI Sensor and f/2.0 with 1080p video recording. On the front side the device is equipped with 2.1-megapixel of camera.

Apple’s iPhone 5 to comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and features simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama and HDR. It comes with 1.2-megapixel front camera for video calling.

Storage

HTC Butterfly may not win here. It does not offer better storage options. It just comes in 16GB on-board storage version where as the iPhone 5 comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal storage versions. However, the HTC Butterfly facilitates expandable memory via microSD card where as the iPhone 5 does not support any such expansion of memory.

Battery

The HTC Buttery is fueled with 2020 mAh li-polymer battery and the company claims it will give longer battery backup to the device. The Apple’s iPhone 5 comes with 1440 mAh li-polymer battery and the company claims it to give 225 hours of standby time. The battery of previous version iPhone 4S supported 200 hours of standby time.

Price

The HTC J Butterfly is priced tagged at $788 SIM-free, without contract.

The iPhone 5 is available on carriers for as low as $199 under contract and its SIM-free price goes up to $849.

T-Mobile has come up with contract-free and subsidy-free option for the device. You can get iPhone 5 from them for a down payment of just $99 and pay the rest in monthly installment plans of $20 for up to 24 months. This will be a SIM-free phone so you are free to choose any other carrier if you don’t want to stick to the T-Mobile network. The $99 tag is for the 16GB version. The 32GB and 64GB models will cost you $199 and $299 respectively.

Verdict

HTC Butterly is poised to challenge Apple’s iPhone 5 with its taller screen and slimmer, curvier and exotic look. Users will also take into account its HD movies streaming to television sets wirelessly besides surfing the Internet. Well, Apple has got its own reputation and many have blind faith on the latest product of the company. What about you? Would you be buying HTC Butterfly now after knowing the differences and similarities of the two phones or go with Apple’s iPhone 5. Do share your own views in the below comment box.

We are all aware of the all out battle between Apple and Samsung to rule the mobile and tablet market. While Apple has been on top ever since the iPhone 3 came out Samsung looks like its finally going to displace Apple from the top with its Galaxy S4. The iPhone 5 simply doesn’t have enough improvements to match up with the Galaxy S4. In the tab market too, ever since the iPad was released, Apple has been on top. But, Samsung has been catching up rapidly and with the Tab and Note series doing so well, it seems that it’s just a matter of time before Samsung move ahead here as well. So what is in the Samsung Tabs? Let’s compare a couple of their best Tabs against each other, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5100) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (P3100). But considering both these Tabs were released in April/May 2012, you shouldn’t expect too much out of either of them.

1. Size – While the Tab 2 (10.1) measures 256.6×175.3×9.7 mm the Tab 2 (7.0) measures 193.7×122.4×10.5 mm. Even in terms of weight, the Tab 2 (10.1) is much heavier than its counterpart weighing it at 588 grams as opposed to the 345 grams of the Tab 2 (7.0). No surprises here. The (10.1) is obviously a lot bigger than the (7.0).

2. Display – In terms of display resolution, both these devices are pretty similar to each other. While the (10.1) has a 800×1280 pixel resolution the (7.0) has a 600×1024 pixel resolution. But while the (10.1) has just a PLS TFT capacitive touch screen with a pixel density of 149 ppi the (7.0) has a PLS LCD capacitive touch screen with a pixel density of 170 ppi. Basically, the display on the (7.0) is a lot better than the (10.1). But the (10.1) does have a much larger screen at 10.1 inches as compared to the 7.0 inch screen of the (7.0). Both devices have a TouchWiz UX User Interface as well.

3. Memory & Storage – As far as memory is concerned, both these Tabs are quite similar too. Just one minor difference. While the (7.0) comes in 8, 16 and 32 GB versions the (10.1) comes in only a 16 and 32 GB version. Both devices support memory expansion up to 32 GB and run on 1 GB of RAM.

4.Camera – Remember that both these devices were released in 2012 and thus, we can’t expect much in terms of photography from either. Both devices sport the same 3.15MP camera on the back that shoots photos with a maximum resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. In terms of video recording, both offer a 720p @ 30fps. The front of the Tabs too just have VGA cameras.

5. OS & Performance – Both these devices are running on the exact same operation system, Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Both devices are also upgradeable to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). In terms of performance, Samsung has powered both it’s Tabs with a 1 GHz dual core processor which will give you a decent enough performance.

6. Battery – Samsung has never let down its customers in this area and this quality assurance continues with both these Tabs as well. While the (10.1) has a 7000 mAh Li-Po battery that boasts of standby times bearing 2000 hours the (7.0) has a 4000 mAh Li-ion battery that has a standby time of 1190 hours. You can rest assured that you will never have a problem with the battery when using either of these Samsung devices.

7. Price – With the massive competition among mobile manufacturers today pricing has become a major issue. But, both these Tabs are priced quite competitively. The Tab 2 (10.1) is available at INR 25,900 onwards and the Tab 2 (7.0) is priced at INR 15,699 onwards.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs 7.0 - which is better ?

Taking into account the fact that the only real benefit you get from a Tab 2 (10.1) is the increased display you might want to consider the Tab 2 (7.0) as it is more than INR 10,000 cheaper. Apart from this there isn’t much more that can be done to compare both these devices or to choose a winner from among them. Both products do well in their product classes without really being outstanding. You may be a little concerned when it comes to the camera though as 3.15MP is a little low by today’s standards. There is nothing about either of these Tablets that sets them apart from the rest and this might make people reconsider spending on either of them considering that there are much better tabs available around the same price. We feel that these Tabs will soon be phased out of the market and if you are looking at a Tablet for yourself your best bet would be the Samsung Note Series or Apple’s iPad 2/mini.

Did you know that there were two version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Yes, you read right, two of them. The first version is the P3100 while the alternate one is the P3110. Both were announced in February 2012 and while the P3100 was released in April 2012, the P3110 was released just a month later in May 2012. So, what is the difference between both the tablets then? Read on to find out…

1. Size – Well there isn’t any difference in the size of both model. in fact, if kept together, it is nearly impossible to tell them apart. Both devices measure 193.7×122.4×10.5 mm. In terms of weight too there isn’t much of a difference. The P3100 weighs in at 345 grams while the P3110 weighs in at 344 grams. Again, hardly noticeable unless you actually weigh both of them on a scale.

2. Display – Here too, there is no difference between both these versions. Both of the devices have a PLS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colours. They both have a 7 inch screen with a pixel density of 170 ppi. Both tablets also have TouchWiz UX user interface and support multitouch.

3. Memory & Storage – This is where the first real difference is noted between the two devices. While the P3100 only supports expansion up to 32 GB the P3110 allows for expansion up to 64 GB. Apart from this, both devices are more or less the same and are also available in variants of 16, 32 and 64 GB. They both have 1 GB of RAM too.

4. Camera – Both devices have a 3.15 MP shooter on the back that won’t really click any amazing pictures for you. Both have front facing cameras as well but considering both offer VGA quality pictures, don’t expect any miracles here either. Video recording too is supported in both models at 720p.

5. OS & Performance – Both of these devices are running on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and updates are available for both tablets to Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean). They both have Dual Core 1 GHz processors as well, although the P3100 does feature a proximity sensor that isn’t present in the P3110. There is a reason for this which we will come back to and explain later in the latter half of the review.

6. Battery – Both devices have a non-removable 4000 mAh Li-ion battery that offers up to a whopping 1070 hours of standby time. Samsung has always been known for it’s amazing battery performance and needless to say they have nailed it with both these tabs as well.

7. Price – We have some very interesting news about the price of both these tablets. The P3100 was initially released at a price of INR 23,250 while the P3110 was released at a price of INR 13,900. But Samsung has noticeably slashed the prices of both these devices. You can now get the P3100 at INR 16,250 while the P3110 is priced at INR 12,750. Why were the prices reduced? My best bet would be so that they could promote their other devices and honestly, neither of these devices are really worth writing home about.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 – 310 and Tab 2- 311, which is better ?

So, after going through the above points, you must have realized that there isn’t much of a difference between the two. So what set’s both of them apart? What accounts for the INR 3,500 difference between both the devices? The simple answer to this is 3G. The P3100 offers 2G and 3G support on most common networks while the P3110 does not offer any 2G or 3G support or in simple words, you cant make calls with the P3110. Also, the mobility and connectivity are pretty much subject to the availability of WiFi, and so, limited. So, if you are looking at buying a Tablet, it all boils down to whether you are going to use it as a phone or not. If you are looking at using it as a phone, the P3100 could be one of the most cost efficient 3G tablets in the market today. If you just want it as a mobile PC, the P3110 should suffice. But, one is likely to shell out a few extra bucks more when they are looking at buying a tablet, to get added advantage of 2G and 3G support. I personally feel that the gadgets you purchase today are actually an investment, then are you really “investing” in a tablet that cant as much as make calls? When you could own a phablet, why buy a tablet? With that in mind, I don’t really know what Samsung was thinking when it released both these versions of the Tab 2. Honestly, they could have just released a version with 3G support and one without.

The big question these days arise whether to go with Android phone or non-Android phone while buying a new top-end smartphone for yourself. If it is Android then which is the best. Industry observers say HTC One is one of the best Android smartphones as of now. Well, the second question arises whether it is better than Apple’s iPhone 5? Let’s compare both the smartphones and find out.

Design

HTC One has curved aluminium rear, plastic sides where as Apple’s iPhone 5 is equipped with flat aluminium rear, slate and white finishes. HTC One is considered as the only Android smartphone in the top-end segment to compete with the iPhone 5 in terms of design. Both the phones are light weight and have cool, hard feel of metal.

HTC One weighs 143g where as iPhone 5 is lighter by weighing just 112g. Both are gorgeous but iPhone 5 easily fits in small hand and can be operated comfortably with a thumb. HTC One is a bit taller and a thumb needs to be stretched to use all the functionality comfortably.

Screen

HTC One sports 4.7-inch Super LCD3 screen providing a resolution of 1080p where as the iPhone 5 features 4-inch IPS screen with resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels.

Though both the smartphones have different screen technologies but the results are almost same. Super LCD3 screen is easily comparable in tone to that of IPS.

Both the smartphones make use of traditional backlights providing natural-looking colors, contrast as well as black levels.

Even though the 4.7-inch screen is larger than that of iPhone 5, the pixel density of the former is still greater due to stunning 1080p resolution panel. HTC One has got 468 ppi pixel density and the iPhone 5 has 326 ppi.

CPU and Memory

HTC One is packed with quad-core 1.7GHz Krait 300 processor, 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU. The iPhone 5 comes with dual-core 1.2GHz Apple A6 CPU, 1GB of RAM and the GPU is PowerVR SGX 543MP3.

Specification wise the HTC One is the smartphone to go with. It has quad-core chip where as the iPhone 5 has a 2-core processor. HTC One has double RAM than iPhone 5.

It is little tough to compare the real-world performance but still it is seen that the HTC One is defeated by the iPhone 5 in the Sunspider java benchmark. In some situation the PowerVR GPU also beats the Adreno 320.

Storage

HTC One comes in two versions – 32GB and 64GB on-board storage. Its memory is non-expandable. The iPhone 5 comes in 16, 32 and 64GB on-board storage. Its memory too is non-expandable via any external cards.

Transferring files are easier in HTC as it gives direct access to the on-board memory that becomes a media drive when plugged with a computer. In iPhone 5 user is tied to iTunes whether in Wi-Fi connection or through Wire.

Software

HTC One runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and is equipped with Sense UI for better performance. The iPhone 5 runs on the latest iOS 6.1 operating system.

The new HTC Sense 5 user interface in the HTC One is different from the earlier versions of Sense. It has got more spare and stark look. Its BlinkFeed feature is amazing with scrolling home page related to latest digital updates such as Facebook news feeds, Twitter feeds, RSS feeds etc. It is stylish and also operates great.

The iOS 6.1 is quite familiar to the earlier versions of iOS with similar set of pages filled with app icons. Well, the latest update has got a great look.

Camera

HTC One comes with 4-megapixel UltraPixel sensor accompanied with a LED flash. The iPhone 5 is mounted with 8-megapixel of sensor and a LED flash.

One question arises that iPhone 5 may be giving double the performance as it has got double the pixel. Right? But the answer is NO.

The UltraPixel sensor of HTC One is larger than normal and hence it gives improved performance in low-light. Well, the iPhone 5 does offer more detail in good light. But the main comparison is done in low light and the HTC One wins here.

The HTC One lens has got aperture of F/2 where as that of iPhone 5 is F2.4. The F relates to the speed of the lens as to how much light can be sucked-in at a certain exposure time.

HTC One vs iPhone 5 - Price

The pricing part of HTC One has not yet been revealed but T-Mobile has announced of selling it for $99 as down payment under no contract. The remaining will be paid in equal installments. It is rumored the phone may be tagged around $600.

The iPhone 5 is made available at a price tag of $199, $299 and $399 for the 16, 32 and 64GB respectively under two-year contract on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. T-Mobile has lately announced selling it contractless with a down payment of $99.99.

Design and specs have been well compared. Now it is time for you to choose one. Also, it is time for you to share your own views about the comparison of HTC One with Apple’s iPhone 5 with us and fellow readers in the below given comment box.

Software

The HTC One runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and latest Sense 5.0 UI, heavily customized Android skin made by HTC itself. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 too comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS but it is upgreadeable to Android 4.2 in near future.

HTC One is equipped with few noteworthy software features such as HTC Zoe to capture three second clips of 1080p video, HTC BlinkFeed for live streaming of entertainment, social and lifestyle updates, HTC Sense Voice to boost call volume, HTC BoomSound integrated with Beats Audio, HTC Sense TV and more.

Camera

HTC One is equipped with one of the best camera features even though it has 4-megapixel sensor. The company refers it as ‘UltraPixels’ camera, which is sensor’s 2 micron pixels. It takes much improved pictures in low-light. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is mounted with 8-megapixel camera. Though it sounds good but the camera performance of HTC One is far better in low-light photography.

Processor and battery

HTC One is powered by quad-core 1.7GHz Krait 300 processor that is integrated on Snapdragon 600 chipset from Qualcomm. It is equipped with Adreno 320 GPU. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is comes with a quad-core Exynos 4412 processor, clocked at 1.6GHz

Storage and memory

The HTC One comes in two version in terms of on-board storage – 32GB and 64GB. The company has not facilitated expansion of memory through any external source. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. Its memory is expandable via microSD cards. Both the smartphones comes with 2GB of RAM.

Connectivity and wireless

Both the devices support LTE connectivity standard. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is already featuring on the EE’s UK 4G network. It has taken the technology of Beats Audio, which is one of the main USPs of the device. Also, its Sense TV feature makes the device work as a remote control for a TV.

Price

The HTC One has been listed on Clove Technology retailer at £510 SIM-free and under contract it comes for £36 a month. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was released in September last year so it is widely available. Without contract it is priced tagged £550. Under contract it comes for £31 per month.

HTC one vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – Which is better ?

People who does not hate carrying a bulky and larger mobile phone may go for Samsung Note 2 as it will give bigger experience of watching videos, taking note (thanks to S Pen) and stronger battery life. HTC One on the other hand is equipped with full suite of new-generation features. Though it is not the king of smartphones but the Jelly Bean-based Sense 5.0 UI do offer slickest custom user experience.

HTC One smartphone lures potential customers with UltraPixel camera and Beat Audio system apart from other features. Sony Xperia Z on the other hand is thin and comes with waterproof body. Both the phones are flagship devices of the manufacturers and below comparison is warranted to help you choose one while buying your next smartphone.

Design

Both the smartphones stand out from the crowd in terms of its design and build quality. HTC One is the best built and best designed phone and Sony Xperia Z is also not far behind in these aspects.

HTC One is wrapped with plastic and aluminium body and does not look or feel cheap or second rated phone. The device is light weight and slim.

Sony Xperia Z is slimmer than HTC One and by weight it is exactly the same. Xperia Z is taller with 5-inch screen and HTC One sports 4.7-inch screen. The Xperia Z has aesthetically pleasing aspect with its fully flat design and squared edges. Its large silver power button makes the device look great.

Screen

HTC One offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels but due to its shorter screen it offers higher pixel density of 469 ppi. Sony Xperia Z offers 441 ppi and same resolution. Resolution wise both the phones are incredibly sharp. Identifying individual pixels are not possible with naked eye. Browsing and text reading are of great experience on the two. The Xperia Z may seem too big because of its large screen but person without small hands may find it easy to use as it is with HTC One.

HTC One uses LCD3 screen where as the Xperia Z sports TFT panel and is powered by Mobile Bravia technology. This is one of the major differences between the two phones but it is hard to call which phone is step up to the other.

Interface

Both the smartphones run on Android 4.1.2 mobile operating system and are upgradeable to Android 4.2 in future. Usually it has been noticed due to manufacturers own UI skins several Android phones have poor interface but Samsung and HTC have changed the thought. HTC’s Sense 5 UI in HTC One phone has reduced lot of earlier versions clutter. The BlinkFeed in the UI offers FlipBoard-style pictorial newsfeed on the homescreen. It is amazing idea and looks great. Sony too has installed several widgets on its Xperia Z to make it compete strongly with other high-end phones.

Processor and memory

Sony Xperia Z is powered by Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor at 1.5GHz and the HTC One comes with newest generation Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. Both have 2GB of RAM.

Internet and connectivity

Both phones are equipped with larger screens so using browsers in high-resolution display is great. There is no issue with panning, scrolling and zooming while surfing Internet. Sony Xperia Z comes with Google Chrome browser, which is not the fastest mobile browser. Also, the browser does not support Adobe Flash. HTC browser on the other hand has handy drop down menu and on/off key. It also runs site with Flash.

Both the smartphones support LTE networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and DLNA. HTC One phone also comes with an infrared beamer to help you control TVs and set-top boxes with it.

Camera

HTC One comes with 4-megapixel rear UltraPixel camera and Sony Xperia Z is mounted with 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor at the rear side. The HTC One is equipped with 2 micron pixels technology so it offers almost the same image quality as any 8-megapixel or 13-megapixel camera offers.

Multimedia

Sony Xperia Z and HTC One both have usual grid format galleries with thumbnail previews of photos and videos.

Sony has used the Walkman branded music player with minimalistic interface. Its equalizers and sound modes are great. HTC One’s music player comes with just Beats Audio present.

Battery

Both the smartphones have equal capacity sealed batteries. The HTC One is fueled by 2300 mAh battery and Sony Xperia Z is powered by 2330 mAh battery.

Price and value

Both the mobile makers have not been able to offer their flagship smartphones this year at a price people would take notice. It is learned and rumored the devices will be made available at around £500 SIM-free.

HTC One vs Sony Xperia Z – Which is better ?

Sony Xperia Z may look a bit rough due to its edges compared to that of HTC One that is sleek but it may be easy to operate with one hand. The Xperia Z is also equipped with waterproof chassis and this will be one of the main reasons for careless owners to buy it.

HTC One wins over Xperia Z due to its great extra features such as IR blaster and superior video capture.

The big-sized smartphone market is gradually heating up. Mobile makers are showing equally good interest in producing smartphones with 5-inch screen or more, usually called as phablet, a device which is samrtphone as well as a tablet in itself. The fashion of phablet devices started from Galaxy Note by Samsung. It had 5-inch display and achieved good market share. The success of original Note made the Korean giant to come up with Galaxy Note 2, sporting 5.5-inch screen.

The HTC J Butterfly sports 5-inch display equipped with better screen technology for more pixel density than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Let us find out what are the other differences or similarities between the two phablets.

Processor

Processor wise there is no much difference between the two smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is powered by 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor and the HTC J Butterfly comes with 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. Both the processors offer great performance.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 sports 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen providing a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 267 ppi. The HTC J Butterfly is equipped with better display than this. It comes with 5-inch Super LCD 3 full HD display and provides a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and offers a pixel density of 440 ppi. Also, it is to take note that HTC J Butterfly is the first phone to offer full HD on a 5-inch display.

RAM and storage

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with 2GB of RAM and it comes in three variants in terms of on-board storage – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The HTC J Butterfly too got the same capacity RAM but is limited to 16GB on-board storage. However, it facilitates expandable memory via microSD card as Note 2.

Camera

Samsung has mounted the Galaxy Note 2 with 8-megapixel rear camera accompanies with LED flash and autofocus. It captures video at 1080p. On the front side the Note 2 is equipped with 1.9-megapixel camera. The HTC J Butterfly too got the same 8-megapixel camera on the rear side but comes with better 2.1-megapixel front camera.

Operating system

Both the smartphones run on Google’s Android mobile operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is powered by Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS and HTC J Butterfly also runs on the same version of Android.

Battery

For a big screen the device needs a very powerful battery. This is the reason Samsung has fueled the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2 smartphone with 3100 mAh battery. Really powerful. Isn’t it?

The HTC J Butterfly on the other hand comes with 2020 mAh battery.

Some say the 2020 mAh battery for the HTC J Butterfly is not enough as there are lot of high-end specs in it including incredible display. Well, it is also learned the LCD 3 display and the now nano meter processor may consume less power.

Color options

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes in Marble White and Titanium Gray shades where as the HTC J Butterfly is available in white, black and red colors.

Dimensions and weight

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a very big phone in size. It measures 151.1mm x 80.5mm x 9.4mm. It is 183g in weight. The HTC J Butterfly on the other hand measures 143mm x 71mm x 9.1mm. It weighs much less than the Note 2 – just 140g.

HTC Butterfly vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – Price War

After all the announcements and rumors about Samsung paving ways to launch the next version of Note phablet dubbed as Galaxy Note 3, carriers are slashing down the Galaxy Note 2 price. On AT&T the device is now available for just $149.99 under two-year contract.

The HTC J Butterfly is priced tagged at $788 SIM-free, without contract.

Other details

Both the phones support NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with few extra features like the digitalized S-Pen Stylus and option of multi-windows. HTC J Butterfly do has its own extra features on the positive front. It comes with Beats Audio and the device is also waterproof and dustproof.

Verdict

It is difficult to split the two smartphones. They are equally as good as the other. If we talk about the display, the Note 2 has bigger screen but the pixel density of Butterfly is incredibly good. The Note 2 lures potential customers with S Pen stylus where as the Butterfly is lighter in weight. Now it is the right time for you to decide and write few lines in the below comment box about which phone do you want to buy after comparing Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with HTC J Butterfly. Do share with us and fellow readers.

You must have read the comparisons made between the Sony Xperia Z and a host of other leading mobile phones in the market including Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and the upcoming Galaxy S4. When compared with the S3, the Xperia Z came out on top in most cases except for the battery life with which Sony has really let its customers down. But how does it fare against a phone from one of Samsung’s Note Series? In this particular case, how does the Xperia Z match up to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ? Read on to find out…

1. Size – The Sony Xperia Z measures 139x71x7.9 mm while the Galaxy Note II measures 151.1×80.5×9.4 mm. Clearly the Note II is much bigger but considering the fact that the Note II is more of a phablet than a Smartphone we don’t think it should matter too much. Since the Note 2 is so much larger, it is obviously much heavier as well. The Note II weighs in at 183 grams as compared to the Xperia Z which weighs 146 grams. Among other Smartphone’s, the Xperia Z is quite heavy but in comparison to the Note II, it is much lighter.

2. Display - The Note II has a Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen which is leaps and bounds ahead of the TFT touch screen on the Xperia Z. But considering that the 5 inch screen of the Xperia Z gives a maximum resolution of 1080×1920 pixels as compared with the Note II which gives a maximum resolution of 720×1280 pixels from its 5.5 inch screen, we have to say that the Xperia Z will provide a much better display than the Note II. Also, in terms of pixel density, the Note II has 267 ppi whereas the Xperia Z has 441 ppi. Again, a smaller screen with a higher pixel density just strengthens our point that the Xperia Z provides a much better display than the Note II.

3. Memory & Storage – In terms of storage the Note II offers a much wider choice than the Xperia Z. The Note II has a 16, 32 and 64 GB version with memory expansion up to 64 GB. The Xperia Z, on the other hand, only has a 16 GB version even though it does offer expandable memory up to 64 GB as well. In terms of memory both have 2 GB of RAM.

4. Waterproof vs. S-pen – Well, we all know about the S-pen on the Note II which can provide for some very precise work with the device. It is indeed quite a nice little feature. But, the Xperia Z combats this with a very exciting feature of its own. The Xperia Z is waterproof up to 1 meter for half an hour. This is a feature which we feel more Smartphone manufacturers should take up on soon.

5. Camera – There is clearly just one winner when it comes to photography among these two devices. The Xperia Z has a 13MP camera on the back with 1080p recording and HDR as well as 2.2MP camera on the front with 1080p recording. The Note II has an 8MP camera with 1080p recording and just a 1.9MP camera on the front. It’s quite obvious which device takes the points here. The Sony Xperia Z.

6. OS & Performance – The difference here is basically because of the difference in release dates of both these devices. While the Note II was released in September 2012 with Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) the Xperia Z was released in February 2013 with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). While you can upgrade the Xperia Z to the latest Android OS 4.2.2. (Jelly Bean) the Note II can only be upgraded to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). In terms of processors though the Note II has a Quad core 1.6 GHz processor while the Xperia Z has just a Quad core 1.5 GHz processor. Considering this is Sony’s first real smart phone though we can forgive them for this.

7. Battery – In terms of battery life the Note II is far ahead of the Xperia Z. The Note II has a 3100 mAh battery that offers a standby time of up to 980 hours while the Xperia Z ha a 2330 mAh battery that offers a standby time of up to 550 hours. But, we have heard complaints from many Xperia Z users that the battery drains out very fast.

8. Price – In terms of price the Note 2 costs around INR 34,000 while the Xperia Z costs around INR 37,000.

Sony Xperia Z vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – which is better ?

So when choosing between the two devices it all comes down to what you are looking for. Do you want a Smartphone or a phablet? One major deciding factor here will be the battery on the Xperia Z. Even though the Xperia Z is clearly a much better device than the Note II, the battery is a very important factor in an electronic device and if it can’t last long enough for you to enjoy the features of the phone it really isn’t worth buying.

Ever since the Sony Xperia Z was released, people have been going crazy comparing it with the Galaxy S4. But, when you honestly think about it, the Xperia Z has actually been released as competition for the Galaxy S3. It is indeed pretty late considering that the S3 was released in May 2012 while the Xperia Z was released in February 2013. But, being Sony’s first real smart phone, we can cut them some slack. So, how does the Xperia Z compare against the Galaxy S3? Read on to find out…

1. Size – The Galaxy S3 measures 136.6×70.6×8.6 mm while the Xperia Z measures 139x71x7.9 mm. So we can see that while the S3 is smaller, the Xperia Z is thinner. But in terms of weight the Xperia Z is much heavier at 146 grams as compared to the Galaxy S3’s 133 grams. But, we could attribute this extra weight to a unique feature of the Xperia Z that we will discuss later as well as the bigger camera.

2. Display – The Galaxy S3 has a great 4.8 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen which offers a pixel density of 306 ppi. While the Xperia Z offers just a TFT capacitive touch screen, it does have a larger 5 inch screen with a pixel density of 441 ppi. What’s more, the glass is supposed to be scratch resistant and shatter proof which is great for some of the more rough users. While the Galaxy S3 has the TouchWiz UI the Xperia Z has the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 which is a far better overall experience.

3. Memory & Storage – There isn’t much to write about in terms of storage. The Galaxy S3 comes in a 16, 32 and 64 GB version while the Xperia

4. Waterproof – The Sony Xperia Z is waterproof up to 1 meter for half an hour. Truly amazing. Sony have pioneered this technology in smart phones and the feature is a welcome addition to the smart phone industry. Let’s hope that other manufacturers take a hint from Sony and work on waterproofing their phones as well. On the downside, waterproofing means all the ports on the phone come with flaps which may hamper the phone’s style a bit and of course make it a little heavier.

5. Camera – In terms of photography, we believe that both phones have done their best. The Galaxy S3 has an 8MP camera on the back along with a 1.9MP shooter on the front. The Xperia Z has a 13.1MP camera on the back and a 2.2MP camera on the front. Clearly, the Xperia Z has a much better front and rear camera but considering the fact that the Galaxy S3 was released more than 6 months before the Xperia Z, it is safe to assume the Samsung did the best with what was on offer at the time.

6. OS & Performance – The Galaxy S3 comes with Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is upgradeable to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). The Xperia Z comes with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) which can be upgraded to Android 4.2.2. (Jelly Bean). Once again, the only reason the Xperia Z is better is because it was released much later. Considering the Galaxy S3 runs on a Quad core 1.4 GHz processor it seems that Sony could have done a lot more with their processor than a Quad core 1.5 GHz. But since this is Sony’s first real Smartphone in a while, we can let this pass.

7. Battery – The Galaxy S3 comes with a 2100 mAh battery while the Xperia Z comes with a 2330 mAh battery. What’s strange though is that even though the Galaxy S3 boasts of a standby time of 590 hours the Xperia Z only has a standby time of 550 hours. There have also been a lot of complaints regarding the battery on the Sony Xperia Z and this is something that no one could ever appreciate.

8. Price – While the Galaxy S3 is priced at INR 28,990 the Xperia Z’s price has fallen from INR 38,990 to INR 36,799. This could pretty much be attributed to the fact that the battery is not up to the mark. Apart from this, there really isn’t any other reason for this drop in price.

So, Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Sony Xperia Z – Which is better ?

Considering that the Galaxy S3 was released much earlier than the Xperia Z, it does manage to do pretty well against it. But the Xperia Z does come out on top in almost all fields apart from the fact that the battery really lets you down. The battery being such a major factor when you buy a Smartphone, this could be the only reason that the Xperia Z won’t even come close to other top mobile phone manufacturers and the only reason why you might still prefer buying the Galaxy S3 over the Xperia Z.
