HTC Butterfly vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The big-sized smartphone market is gradually heating up. Mobile makers are showing equally good interest in producing smartphones with 5-inch screen or more, usually called as phablet, a device which is samrtphone as well as a tablet in itself. The fashion of phablet devices started from Galaxy Note by Samsung. It had 5-inch display and achieved good market share. The success of original Note made the Korean giant to come up with Galaxy Note 2, sporting 5.5-inch screen.

The HTC J Butterfly sports 5-inch display equipped with better screen technology for more pixel density than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Let us find out what are the other differences or similarities between the two phablets.

Processor

Processor wise there is no much difference between the two smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is powered by 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor and the HTC J Butterfly comes with 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. Both the processors offer great performance.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 sports 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen providing a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 267 ppi. The HTC J Butterfly is equipped with better display than this. It comes with 5-inch Super LCD 3 full HD display and provides a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and offers a pixel density of 440 ppi. Also, it is to take note that HTC J Butterfly is the first phone to offer full HD on a 5-inch display.

RAM and storage

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with 2GB of RAM and it comes in three variants in terms of on-board storage – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The HTC J Butterfly too got the same capacity RAM but is limited to 16GB on-board storage. However, it facilitates expandable memory via microSD card as Note 2.

Camera

Samsung has mounted the Galaxy Note 2 with 8-megapixel rear camera accompanies with LED flash and autofocus. It captures video at 1080p. On the front side the Note 2 is equipped with 1.9-megapixel camera. The HTC J Butterfly too got the same 8-megapixel camera on the rear side but comes with better 2.1-megapixel front camera.

Operating system

Both the smartphones run on Google’s Android mobile operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is powered by Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS and HTC J Butterfly also runs on the same version of Android.

Battery

For a big screen the device needs a very powerful battery. This is the reason Samsung has fueled the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2 smartphone with 3100 mAh battery. Really powerful. Isn’t it?

The HTC J Butterfly on the other hand comes with 2020 mAh battery.

 

Some say the 2020 mAh battery for the HTC J Butterfly is not enough as there are lot of high-end specs in it including incredible display. Well, it is also learned the LCD 3 display and the now nano meter processor may consume less power.

Color options

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes in Marble White and Titanium Gray shades where as the HTC J Butterfly is available in white, black and red colors.

Dimensions and weight

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a very big phone in size. It measures 151.1mm x 80.5mm x 9.4mm. It is 183g in weight. The HTC J Butterfly on the other hand measures 143mm x 71mm x 9.1mm. It weighs much less than the Note 2 – just 140g.

After all the announcements and rumors about Samsung paving ways to launch the next version of Note phablet dubbed as Galaxy Note 3, carriers are slashing down the Galaxy Note 2 price. On AT&T the device is now available for just $149.99 under two-year contract.

The HTC J Butterfly is priced tagged at $788 SIM-free, without contract.

Other details 

Both the phones support NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with few extra features like the digitalized S-Pen Stylus and option of multi-windows. HTC J Butterfly do has its own extra features on the positive front. It comes with Beats Audio and the device is also waterproof and dustproof.

Verdict

It is difficult to split the two smartphones. They are equally as good as the other. If we talk about the display, the Note 2 has bigger screen but the pixel density of Butterfly is incredibly good. The Note 2 lures potential customers with S Pen stylus where as the Butterfly is lighter in weight.
