The Design

Unlike the name, the Huawei ascend mate 7 is not a 7-inch tablet but a Full HD 6-inch phablet. It measures 157x 81 x 7.9mm and weighs 185 g. It is still a huge smartphone and cannot be easily used single-handedly, unless you have really large hands.

The display is enclosed in an all-metal casing. The body is designed in such a way that it does not need extra space to accommodate the enormous screen. The bezel is minimalistic and the Chinese company maintains that majority of the phone area is consumed by the awesome display. The seamless design is completed and accentuated by the curved back, the matte metal, the lines which cross the back at the bottom and the top, and the smart placement of the fingerprint scanner and the camera along with the flash.

The phone will be available in 3 different colors, i.e., Moonlight silver,Obsidian black, and Amber gold. It may be noted that the iPhone 5S and the newly launched iPhone 6 phones also come in the same colors. However, when it comes to the design, the Huawei ascend mate 7 is more similar to theHTC One Max rather than the iPhones.

The Screen

The Huawei ascend mate 7 comes with a 6 inch, Full HD, IPS, LCD,Corning Gorilla Glass 3screen, along with a resolution of 2,560×1,600pixels and 368 ppi. This makes it a device with extremely sharp graphics. The Chinese manufacturer is known for making smartphones with vivid, bright displays, and the mate 7 is no different.

The Performance

The Huawei ascend mate 7 is a beast of a machine. It is powered by an octa-core Kirin 925 CPU with Mali T628 GPU. The processor is made up of 2 quad-core units. The slightly less powerful 1.3GHz A7 processor is used for executing basic tasks. The phone turns to the more powerful 1.8GHz A15 processor for power consuming tasks like image processing or gaming.

The 16 GB version comes with 2 GB of RAM, while the 32 GB version has 3 GB RAM. Both come with microSD external storage options of up to 32 GB.

The mate 7 will run on Kit Kat Android 4.4 OS integrated onto the latest version of Huawei’s own UI, i.e.,EMUI 3.0.The UI has been enhanced with a novel timeline design and a new slick look. It will supposedly offer improved usability and consistency across different apps.

Camera

The Huawei ascend mate 7 comes with a 13 MP primary camera, a 4thgeneration BSI sensor from Sony, a bright f/2.0 aperture, and LED flash. The company has stated that these specs will ensure that the camera will provide excellent results in low-light conditions.

The phablet also has an incredible 8 MP secondary camera on the front. This high pixel option can be attributed to the rising popularity of selfies.

Battery and other features

The mate 7 comes with a 4,000mAh Li-Polymerbattery. However, considering the big HD display and the octa-core processor, even this battery may not have enough juice for the long haul.

The Huawei ascend mate 7 has a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. It can be used to authorize online payments as well as unlock the gadget. It is located in the same area as the one on the HTC One Max, but unlike the HTC, users do not have to slide their digit across it.The scanner works like iPhone 5S’s TouchID; users can come at it from any side and activate it with a simple touch of the finger. As per Huawei, the scanner allows up to 5 different fingerprints in guest and regular modes.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, GPRS/EDGE, 3G, and LTE Cat 6 4G connectivity.

Pricing

The Huawei ascend mate 7 will probably go on sale in the month of October. It will be launched in 30 countries including markets like France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, China, and the UK. The 32 GB version will be available for about 599 euros, while the 16 GB version will be sold for about 499 euros. Currently, there is no information about whether or not the mate 7 will be available for purchase in the United States.

On paper, the Huawei ascend mate 7 seems like a top-notch smartphone. It has all the credentials to be a public favorite. Photographers will love the large full HD screen and the amazing camera, gamers will love the immense power capability, and fans will like the affordable price-tag. All in all, it may become the surprise hit of the last quarter of 2014.
