According to a reliable leaker called Digital Chat Station from China, there are already rumors about the successors to the upcoming iPhone 15 family. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, expected to be released in September 2024, is said to have a unique feature. It is rumored to come with a “Super Telephoto” periscope zoom camera, which refers to a camera with a focal length over 300mm. This would be a significant improvement compared to the current iPhone 14 Pro Max, which only has a 77mm zoom capability.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, releasing this September, is also rumored to introduce a periscope camera, but not the “Super Telephoto” version. It is speculated that the iPhone 16 Pro will inherit the periscope camera from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature an even more advanced system.
Super Telephoto cameras are commonly used in sports and wildlife photography, as well as for portraits when the photographer needs to maintain distance from the subject.
Furthermore, the same source suggests that the main camera of the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 12% larger sensor size (1/1.14″) compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max (1/1.28″). The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, is expected to retain the same hardware as its predecessor.
