The OnePlus 5 is the latest flagship device from the company. Presented below is a comparison between the iPhone 7 and the OnePlus 5. It may be noted that the former is much more expensive as compared to the OnePlus 5 which can be purchased at Amazon at a base price of INR 32,999.
The Screen
The iPhone 7 has a solid 4.7 inches screen with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels. The OnePlus 5 sports a big 5.5 inches display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. The latter is thus more of a competitor to the iPhone 7 Plus, which has a bigger display, rather than the iPhone 7.
The higher screen resolution means that the display at 401 pixels per inch on the OnePlus 5 is sharper than the 326 ppp screen on the iPhone 7. The technology used for the display on each phone is also different; the iPhone 7 has an LCD panel while the OnePlus 5 comes with an AMOLED screen.
There is not any real major difference in the quality of viewing experience in either of the devices. People who want a big screen can go for the OnePlus 5, while those who desire a more compact display can choose the iPhone 7.
The Build and Design
The design of the OnePlus 52 is almost similar to the iPhone 7. Both the smartphones have a sleek metal unibody along with antenna bands that curve around the bottom and top borders, a home button which also acts as a fingerprint sensor/scanner located under the screen, and a back camera located at the left hand top corner.
Besides the different company logos, other distinguishing features which are immediately visible include the home button shape, i.e., the OnePlus 5 has an oblong home button, while the iPhone has the well-known circular home button; and the additional lens on the primary camera of the OnePlus 5 which makes it look more like the successor of the iPhone 7.
A closer look at the two devices will help find other distinguishing features. The OnePlus 5 is a lot bigger at 154.2 x 74.1 x 7.25 mm than the iPhone 7 which has dimensions of 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm. The former is also comparatively heavier at 153 grams than the iPhone which weighs 138 grams. OnePlus 5 has a bigger battery and a larger screen, and hence it is heavier.
One of the major differences between the two smartphones is the fact that the OnePlus 5 is not water resistant, while the iPhone 7 is IP67 certified dust and water resistant.
The Camera and Battery
The iPhone 7 comes with a 1,960 mAh battery while the OnePlus 5 has a big and powerful 3,300 mAh battery. It may be noted that the battery on the iPhone 7 has to power a smaller display and can thus give decent battery life of about a day with normal use.
The OnePlus 5 comes with a dual lens main camera at the back. The camera is thus more like the phone featured on the iPhone 7 Plus.
The OnePlus sports a 20 megapixel and a 16 megapixel primary camera which allows users to mix image data so as to generate a bokeh effect on the photos. In such photos, there is more focus on the subject while the background is blurred. The dual lens on the OnePlus 5 can also be used at the same time for optical zooming. The main 16 MP camera comes with an aperture of f/1.7 while the 20 megapixel telephoto lens features an f/2.6 aperture. A smaller aperture has a big opening and is able to take in lots of additional light.
The iPhone 7 features a single lens 12 megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/1.8. Thus the opening is slightly smaller than the main camera of the OnePlus 5. However the iPhone 7 camera performance is still good in conditions of low light. It also has good features like the stunning quad-LED flash and optimal stabilization of images.
Both the smartphones can record 4K videos. The OnePlus 5 features a big 16 megapixel selfie camera, and the iPhone 7 comes with a 7 MP camera on the front.
Technical Specifications and the OS
The iPhone 7 comes with a powerful quad-core Apple A10 Fusion processor clocking at 2.34 GHz along with 2 GB of RAM. As compared to this, the OnePlus 5 uses the best and latest mobile processor, i.e., the Snapdragon 835. It is an octa-core chipset which clocks up to 2.45 GHz. The device also comes with a huge 8 GB of RAM.
The RAM on the iPhone 7 may be just ¼ in capacity as compared to the OnePlus 5 RAM. However, this does not mean that the latter will yield a performance that is 4 times more than the iPhone 7 performance.
The smartphones launched by Apple usually tend to come with lesser RAM as compared to the flagship Android devices launched by different companies. Despite the lesser RAM, iPhones are still regarded and ranked among smartphones with the most power and great performance.
The iPhone 7 runs on the awesome iOS 10, while the OnePlus 5 comes with the latest Android 7 OS. Thus, each of the devices has different user interfaces and varied apps and app stores.
