Update to the Netflix password sharing restriction limits usage to only a user’s family
In their recent update, Netflix informs users in India that password sharing is limited to family households. This means that those not part of your family on the Netflix platform won’t be able to access your account. Following this update, Netflix will start informing users of the change to password sharing via email.
So if you use Netflix and pay for the subscription plan, you will get an email informing you of the new change to the platform’s requirements. To track users of an account, Netflix will use the device’s IP address to tell how far it is from the account owner. Devices not within the same location as the account owner will not get access to the Netflix account. Lots of users might view this as a mean and inconsiderate move by Netflix, but the company is only caring for its business.
Ever since the password sharing restriction started, Netflix says they have got over 5.9 million new subscribers. They also point out that their signups are more than the number of subscription cancellations. The growth in subscribers proves that users care more about the block-busting movies they enjoy streaming on the platform.
Netflix might as well introduce a password sharing subscription option. This will help users to still share their password with others, but they’d pay more than regular subscribers.
